First ASEFUAN Dialogue on Climate Change,
Barcelona & Madrid, Spain,
24 - 27 November 2009
The First ASEFUAN Dialogue on Climate Change and Sustainable Development will be co-organised by ASEFUAN and Casa Asia on 24-27 November 2009. The first half of the programme will take place in Barcelona (Spain). Then participants will move to Madrid (Spain) for the second half.
The 4 day event is aimed at young experts on Sustainable Development and the fight against Climate Change with a background in disciplines such as Energy, International Relations, Urban Planning, Economics, Engineering, Political Science, Social Sciences, Forestry, Agricultural Studies, Environmental Studies or Development Studies.
The programme is a mix of open lectures and panels and closed workshops and group projects. Panellists include senior ministers of Energy and Urban Planning from different Asian and European countries as well as officials from international agencies such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). During workshops participants are expected to take an active role in presenting their own research and experience.
All selected participants will engage in pre-conference discussions using online tools and will contribute to the final output of the programme, which includes a set of recommendations and expectations prior to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, and a catalogue of innovative projects and ideas that can contribute towards more sustainable ways of development. This pool of 70 projects in Asia and Europe should trigger new cooperation between participants and could lead to the development of new jointly organised activities.
